EXPLORE THE HISTORIC COUNTRYSIDE AROUND THE LEICESTERSHIRE-WARWICKSHIRE BORDER

A 42-mile-long circular walk

The walk is the creation of two heritage guides at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre. Fusing a love of walking with a passion for history, they have devised a route that covers not only the newly rediscovered Bosworth Battlefield but also the most probable site of Boudica's final battle against the Romans.

The walk also visits two English Civil War locations, one where a siege took place and the other the site of a cavalry skirmish. There are also reminders of 20th century conflict, most notably a reconstructed RAF observation tower and a preserved Cold War nuclear bunker. Visiting twenty villages, a deserted village and a market town, the Battlefields and Borderlands Way stays for the most part on well signposted public footpaths, minor roads and pavements.

The book to accompany the walk contains fascinating information about the area that was once the borderland between Anglo-Saxon Mercia and the Viking Danelaw. Find out about the notable people who lived and worked in this area including the founder of the Quakers, the 'Mother of Computing', an Archbishop of Canterbury and even a character from Thomas the Tank Engine.
